The new version of the Renault ZOE has just been presented at the Paris Motor Show and promises a revolution for electric lovers. Its most important new quality is undoubtedly the installation of the new ZE 40 41 kWh battery capacity that allows it to reach the 400 km range of zero emissions according to the European approval cycle NEDC, which means twice the mileage to go with each recharge compared to the first version. Now all versions of ZOE, except the basic line that will follow with the standard 22 kWh battery, will use the new 41 kWh battery that announces a 400-km electric range (NEDC). According to Renault, under normal conditions the small electric runs 300 km for real use with a single charge. The brand also reminds that with 30 minutes of a conventional recharge can be covered about 80 km additional, in addition to also have the quick charge function Quick Charge. All this to break with that anxiety of not having sufficient electrical autonomy and to be without load in the most inopportune moment.
This change takes place without changing the design of the ZOE. The new battery, developed in collaboration with LG Chem, increases its capacity by almost double, 41 kWh of the new one compared to the 22 kWh of the standard. However, this is not achieved by installing a larger number of modules, but with an improvement in the chemistry of the battery cells, which causes the increase in its energy density, hence its storage capacity and autonomy. This means that the new lithium-ion battery has the same size as the previous one, so it was not necessary to modify the structure of the vehicle to increase its autonomy, although its weight has been increased moderately. A new air circulation system keeps the ZOE battery at a moderate temperature. Renault adds new applications to the ZOE so that the driving experience and freedom of movement are more flexible:
What’s new in the ZOE line
The new ZOE is now available with two new body shades: Intense Red and Gray Titanium. The ZEN version comes with a new interior featuring a chrome frame on the R-Link console and the graycolor for the gear lever and the speakers. On the other hand, the INTENS finish receives folding exterior mirrors, 16-inch aluminum wheels in two shades, as well as the new black color in some parts of the interior, and the possibility of equipping a blue interior pack. Finally comes the special Edition ‘Edition One’, which is distinguished by its exclusive finish consisting of premium leather upholstery, heated front seats, a high-performance audio system signed by Bose and the unique tone of body Gray Yttrium. The new Renault ZOE is now available for sale. The first units equipped with the new battery ZE 40 will begin to be delivered later this year.
2016 – RENAULT CLIO RS 220 EDC TROPHY BY WALDOW PERFORMANCE
The Renault Clio RS 220 EDC Trophy by Waldow is a model designed for the circuits, in which the German coach decided to extract all the potential hidden under the hood. Renault’s most powerful compact receives a series of adjustments in its mechanical and dynamic part that improve its performance, as well as different actions to make the assembly lighter. Waldow focuses on the on-track skills of the small Renault Clio RS 220 EDC Trophy, which the engine receives a number of modifications, including a water-cooled system, optimized software, a NAP sports exhaust system and a retouched turbocharger with downpipe and a sport catalytic converter.
Waldow did not disclose the exact performance numbers of the Clio RS 220 EDC Trophy after all the modifications applied. Recalling that from the factory, the Clio’s 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine develops 220 hp and 380 Nm of torque. The chassis and suspension were also modified. The trainer installed a modified KW-Clubsport suspension, 17-inch light alloy wheels with semi-slick tires, Brembo brakes with competition inserts and a safety cage. The interior features Recaro seats, four-point safety belts and a steering wheel lined in Alcantara.
2016 – RENAULT CLIO RS 16 CONCEPT
A few days ago the news came as a rumor. Renault was preparing something around the Clio and some images were leaked on various websites, and only a few hours later, it was Renault itself that confirmed the rumor and published the first official photo. This year two events took place simultaneously, Renault Sport, the French sports division of the 40-year-old brand and Renault marked its return to Formula 1. And to celebrate, there could have been no better idea than creating the Renault Clio RS 16 , a small car equipped with the 2.0-liter engine of the Mégane RS Trophy-R, with a power of no less than 275 hp. For now it is a prototype, which will initially serve the purpose of being displayed this weekend at the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix and the Goodwood Festival of Speed that will take place at the end of June.
Renault Sport engineers claim that transplanting the Mégane engine into a smaller car was a real challenge, but the changes and improvements did not end with the engine but also hit the chassis and the body. Not only was the engine inherited from the Mégane RS Trophy-R, but also the adjustable dampers and the 350 mm steel disc brakes. The rear axle was borrowed from the Clio R3T Rally, which allowed 50% greater torsional stiffness. On the other hand, its body was extended by 60 mm and the whole front had to be redesigned to accommodate the new engine, transmission and cooling system. Its wider wheel arches conceal the 19-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The exhaust system is signed by Akrapovic and the body is painted yellow to honor the brand’s Formula 1 cars. For the time being Renault has built two units, one of which is the yellow one that debuts this weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix and the other in black, is being used for research and development. It is not yet known if we can see the model in the concessionaires.
2016 – RENAULT DUSTER EXTREME CONCEPT
With the well-known slogan ‘Welcome to the true SUV world’, the Renault Duster has its adventurous side even more reinforced in the show car Duster Extreme Concept, another model developed by the RDAL team especially for the Salão de São Paulo. The show car adds to the rugged design of the sports-utility colors, materials, high performance sports equipment and accessories to face any type of terrain, further enhancing the off-road capabilities of the already established version 2.0 4×4. The vehicle has gray paint and accessories in red, reminding cars used for mountain rescue – an image that becomes even stronger with the use of off-road tires, winch, mud flaps, roof rack with LED bar, side rack, raised suspension and ladder on the side. Inside, the seats have specific safety features and red details.
2016 – RENAULT DUSTER ADVENTURE EDITION
Based on the facelift of Dacia, presented 3 years ago, now arrives the Renault Duster Adventure Edition, exclusive to the market of India. This is a more robust version of the SUV, which despite not show radical changes, adds some extra elements in the exterior and interior. It incorporates plastic reinforcements throughout the body, a renewed front bumper, adds another pair of antinebline lights and a shiny black grill. In addition, a new color contributes to its renewed image: the ‘Outback Bronze’ in addition to the orange for the front sliding plate and the roof racks. The changes continue in the interior, where there is a linen fabric tapestry and some orange details for the air vents, speedometer and seats, for example. Regarding the price, this adventurous version of the Renault Duster for India costs the equivalent of between 45,000 and 64,500 reais depending on the equipment and the engine. The Renault Duster Adventure Edition will be offered only with two diesel engines of 85 and 110 hp, associated to a manual transmission of 5 and 6 speeds, respectively. The most powerful version can be chosen with full wheel drive.
2016 – RENAULT CLIO RS 220 TROPHY
– Presented at the Geneva Motor Show, the new Renault Clio RS 220 Trophy produces 220 hp. The EDC transmission becomes 40-50% faster in gear changes. Renault officially unveiled the Clio RS 220 Trophy, a version with 10% more power than the standard Clio RS, an EDC transmission, a lower chassis and more rigid. The four-cylinder 1.6-liter turbocharged engine received 20 hp making a total of 220 hp. The torque was also increased to 260 Nm, 20 Nm more.
Additionally, a fourth and fifth gear torque supplement function, ensuring torque increases between 40 Nm and 280 Nm. Increased power was possible due to new electronics management, a larger turbo, a new air intake and a exhaust system also modified. The Clio RS 220 Trophy regimen was increased from 6,500 rpm to 6,800 rpm. A benefit is also relevant in relation to the dual-clutch EDC transmission, which gears the changes in “Normal” and “Sport” modes more quickly by 40%; in race mode, the ratio change is 50% faster due to software recalibration. Other changes to the EDC include the possibility of early shrinkage reductions, for example in braking situations, as well as a more flexible “Sport” mode with more reactive shift patterns depending on driving style. At ground level of the chassis, the Trophy is 20 mm lower at the front and 10 mm behind. The Clio RS 220 Trophy also features stiffer dampers and revised spring assemblies making it 40% stiffer at the rear. The wheels are 18 inches. The model will be available to the market in June.
